Charlie is…
A gem of a short that follows a young woman in London as she navigates through a day of self-reflection and heartbreak after her five-year boyfriend from Canada breaks up with her. Deciding to swallow her (very big) pride, she confronts her boyfriend for a humble second chance, but finds a shocking surprise that sets in motion the bitter, crass and off-handed woman she becomes. Charlie is the glimpse into a traumatic moment in her life that plays as the roots for the bigger story, Take it Easy Charlie the feature. It’s about the weight of our experiences and choices that we carry forward into our future.
“The thing about broken is the opportunity to put things back together in new ways…A chance to catch the light differently.”

“Do you ever catch a look at yourself in the metaphorical mirror…and hate what you see?…Of course you have, don’t be a #@*!”
The Writer and Director
Nicole J Field

“I think Charlie embodies everything we love and struggle with about ourselves. She’s the girl we adore and cringe for. She’s who we root for and raise an eyebrow to. ‘Did Charlie really just say that??’ “
-Nik
Charlie is Nicole J Field’s directorial debut, and the short that has launched a great desire to do more…many more. Nicole’s work in film began in 2008 on the production of Rolland Emmerich’s 2012, filmed in Vancouver, BC as a production assistant. Falling in love with the visual story telling aspect of film, she eventually began working as a script supervisor and story editor, sharpening her skills on writing for the screen and its translation in production.
Her first script, Take it Easy, Charlie, is where her true passion for screenwriting began. Nicole moved to Calgary in the fall of 2023 where writing and production became her full-time job. In 2024 she had two of her feature film scripts produced. The first, We Kill Them All, was released in January 2025, and her first horror film entitled The Wrath which was shot in both Canada and Thailand. The release of The Wrath will be in late 2025.
She is currently in the process of writing three more scripts, a true-crime horror entitled Pig Farm Killer, and two thrillers entitled Secrets We Keep and Bellows River. All three features are set to be produced in 2026/2027.
We should mention that Charlie is the origin story to the feature, Take it Easy, Charlie, set to be produced in 2027. And we’d be remiss to repeat with dizzying iteration the…desire to do more…many more…? Because we all need more “Charlie” these days.
